Father John Klopke presently resides in Rome where he fills the post of General Councilor and Secretary of the Society of the Precious Blood. A native of Chicago, he was ordained to the priestood in his Congregation in 1953. After graduate studies at Fordham University and at the University of Toronto where he earned his doctorate, he taught in the philosophy department of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana. From 1971 until 1985, he was engaged in parish ministry in the San Francisco Bay area with special work with minorities.
His interest in catechetics began in the years following the Second Vatican Council. His involvement in adult education showed him the many uncertainties about the Church which had developed in the post-Vatican period. Five years of lectures and inquiry classes convinced him of the need for a clear and concise exposition of contemporary Catholicism
The ST. JOSEPH PEOPLE'S CATECHISM is the outcome of it all.
